Product Description
One of the most popular ballets, Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) composed SWAN LAKE, Op. 20 in 1875-76. Tchaikovsky borrowed from the Russian and German folk tales to tell the of story a princess, Odette who was turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. SWAN LAKE premiered on March 4, 1877, at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Since its premiere, selections such as the DANSE RUSSE (from Act III, No. 20a) have since become popular in orchestral suites and gala programs for their vivid character and theatrical flair. Today the DANSE RUSSE stands as a vibrant example of Tchaikovsky's gift for integrating national idioms into the classical ballet tradition, remaining a frequently performed highlight both onstage and in the concert hall. The present critical edition by Carl Simpson is based upon the full score issued by P. Jurgenson sometime between 1881 and 1896 and the Nikolai Kashkin piano reduction. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2+2(Crnt).3.1: Timp.Perc(2-3): Str (10.8.7.6.5 in set): Solo Vn in Vn1 part. Newly engraved.
